  I recently moved to Iowa from Hawaii and missed a good bowl of Pho. We were in the area (because we i live now, there are no pho/Vietnamese restaurants) and saw all the good reviews here so we had to try it out. We ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls, fresh spring rolls, and combo pho. Everything was delicious. The broth was so tasty and full of flavor. I would definitely come again next time!

  Aroy Dee has been one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Des Moines for years. It started with pho. Aroy Dee doesn't mess around and takes over a day to make their broth. If you love pho, you'll know that's important. Pho is all about the broth. As a result of this long prep time, their broth is extraordinary. The meat and veggies are also fresh and delicious. I always go with rare beef and well done beef. The contrast between the two is great. There's also tendon and meatballs, if that's your thing. They've never been one of mine.
  
  My next favorite item on their menu, is the vermicelli. This is another quintessential Vietnamese dish that you simply must try. I always opt for the vermicelli with egg rolls and grilled pork. The egg rolls are cut in two on the bias, and the nice chunks of grilled pork are delicious. The egg rolls lend some nice crunch to the dish. I usually dump the tasty lemon sauce over the entire dish and stir it a bit...then I devour it. All of it.
  
  Their egg rolls are also great. They offer two kinds: Aroy Dee style and Vietnamese style. They're both good, but the Aroy Dee style egg rolls are quite unique and taste fantastic. The crispy texture of the thicker wrapper also adds welcome crunch.
  
  Let's not forget another appetizer staple of Vietnamese cuisine: spring rolls! The spring rolls at Aroy Dee are made fresh to order. There's no pile of pre made ones sitting around. My favorite are the shrimp spring rolls. The fresh veggies, combined with the vermicelli and grilled shrimp make for a fantastic bite. I always put a little Sriracha on each bite for some added kick.
  
  The latest thing I tried on the menu, was the Basil Chicken stir fry. It arrived piping hot, and laden with delicious vegetables. They still had a satisfying crunch, which is something I love in stir fry. The chicken was nice and tender, and perfectly cooked. It didn't last long.
  
  I've been eating at Aroy Dee for years. There are lots of tasty items on the menu, and some are truly exceptional. The pho and vermicelli are one of, if not the best, in town. You won't regret ordering either, guaranteed. The stir fry is quite delicious as well, and the wouldn't hesitate recommending it.
  
  Last but certainly not least, the service is awesome. The environment is usually fairly quiet. It's not a large place, but it's definitely cozy. It's a great place to take a date.
  
  Whether you're there for a date, a dinner with friend or family, or even to eat by yourself, you really can't go wrong with Aroy Dee.

  I wouldn't choose to eat here again if there are other options. Service was okay - not the smoothest. We had the misforunate of being seated next to some really annoying people and it was a little better once we moved. We got two eggroll appetizers... the fried one was yummy and the noodle wrapped (or whatever it was) was interesting. Our dishes were average sized and a little over priced in my opinion. Nothing special to speak of and nothing that makes me want to return.

  I would ordinarily pass by such an unassuming restaurant, but on a tip from a co-worker, I decided to try Arroy Dee for lunch. Man, was I ever happy to receive this recommendation!
  
  The hot and sour soup was some of the tastiest I have ever had. Piping hot and full of flavor.
  
  For my entree, I chose the combo vermicelli which included hearty portions of pork, shrimp, egg roll pieces and fresh veggies. It should have been too much but I was feeling extra glutinous today and finished the entire bowl.
  
  I sure will pay closer attention to hidden gems like this and put aside any notions I have to pass up delicious opportunities around town.
  
  Put this on your to-do list if you like authentic Asian cuisine. Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai food and well worth the visit!
  
  I forgot to mention our server was super friendly and the food was served promptly!  5 stars from me. Ambiance should deduct half of a star, but the deliciousness made up for that. I don't need linen napkins and crystal drinking glasses, just give me a great meal and great service and you've made me a customer for good!  Well done, Arroy Dee!

  The general chicken, orange chicken and vegetable fried rice were all amazing!  Due to this it's now my second favorite Asian food restaurant in town.
  
  The cons were that I did not get my hot and sour soup which I had ordered.  Some of the meat was well over cooked.  The egg roll was not good, which may be due to it being well over cooked.  The sweet chili sauce tasted expired, like it had sat around too long.
  
  The service was great and fast.  The person I spoke with on the phone and in the restaurant was fantastic.  My next attempt here will involve me looking through each item in the bag before I leave and not getting egg rolls.  Other than that, I'll be back for more soon.
